Helpful tips and tricks for having your dog at your engagement session
Want to incorporate your furry friends in your engagement shoot and don’t know what to do to prepare? I got you. I love when clients want to have their pets participate in shoots, here are a few things I have learned along the way that can help your shoot be more at ease.
Bring a family member or friend. Getting your pets attention while taking photos at the same time is challenging, that’s why I encourage you to bring an extra person to help. Your extra person will stay right next to me and help get your pet to look at the camera and smile. Which brings me to my next point, bring treats or a toy. We use these to get your pet to look at the camera and to reward them when we get a good photo. Having an extra person hold a treat/toy helps the photographer and makes the overall experience much smoother. And once we are done with photos of your pet, the extra person can take your pet and watch after them until the session is done.
Does your pet shed? That’s totally okay, if your pet sheds then I suggest bringing a lint roller. Pet hair is totally fine, we just want to make sure your outfit isn’t covered in hair- and it helps me in post production when I’m editing.
I suggest bringing a neutral colored collar and leash- some of them are wild colors and patterns, and if it is important to you that everything coordinates, maybe keep the neon blue and yellow leash at home. If your pet has long hair, like a golden, the scarfs that have words on them can be hard to see in photos. I would suggest having a scarf with words further down the scarf or we can have the scarf lay on their back.
I hope these tips and tricks help, and that your session with your furry family members goes smoothly!
