Engagement Photo Ideas in Columbus From a Spring Engagement Session at Franklin Park Conservatory
Deciding what kind of engagement shoot you want is so much harder than it sounds! You just got engaged, everyone’s asking what you have planned, and nobody tells you where to start. That’s totally normal, and I love helping couples figure it out. Here are the engagement photo ideas in Columbus I keep coming back to, and a lot of them came from Anjali and Gavin’s April session at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
Engagement Photo Ideas in Columbus When You’re Not Sure Where to Start
I always start with where the two of you feel most like yourselves. If a coffee and a walk through the city sounds like a perfect afternoon, a street with some character might be your spot. If you’re happiest outside, a garden or a park might be the one. And if your dog is part of the family, bring them along! I love dogs at sessions, and my Helpful tips and tricks for having your dog at your engagement session post will help you get ready.
There’s no wrong answer here; I love to help my couples throughout the process! If you tell me what a perfect day together looks like, I’ll help you turn it into a place and a plan. That’s my favorite part of planning engagement photo ideas in Columbus with a couple!
Choose a Spot With More Than One Look
If you can’t decide, I’d go with a place that gives you more than one look. Indoors and outdoors work great together, and so does a neighborhood with both streets and green space, like Lauren and Jack’s session in Engagement Photo Locations in Columbus: German Village and Schiller Park. Your gallery doesn’t turn into the same photo on repeat, and you’re covered if the weather changes its mind, which happens a lot in Ohio!
I don’t put a timer on engagement sessions, so there’s room to hit more than one spot and change outfits without anyone checking a watch. A place with more than one look is one of my favorite engagement photo ideas in Columbus to build a session around, and it makes the whole day feel less rushed.
Wear Something That Stands Out
Outfits don’t have to be complicated either. I love colors that stand out against the backdrop instead of blending into it, so it helps to think about what’s around you. If you’re in a garden or around a lot of green, soft neutrals and blues look great, and against brick or city streets, a bold color really pops. Anjali and Gavin started in blues and neutrals and later switched to creams and beiges, and both stood out against all the greens around them!
A second outfit is an easy way to make your gallery feel like more than one moment. It doesn’t take long to switch, and you end up with way more variety. If you want to see how far color can go, check out Timeless Chicago Engagement Photos at the Art Institute & Around the City, where Audrey wore a red dress and later switched to a cream sweater dress!
Let the Season Guide Your Shoot
Each season gives you a different backdrop, so it helps to think about the feel you want. Spring means fresh green and flowers, and fall brings warm colors and golden light. Anjali and Gavin’s session was in April, and the gardens had tulips and trees blooming, so we didn’t need anything else when the location was so beautiful.
Whatever season you’re planning for, I love picking a date around what’s blooming or changing and letting it stand out with you! A date timed around the season is one of the easiest engagement photo ideas in Columbus to pull off!
What’s Open at Franklin Park Conservatory Right Now
The Conservatory is renovating its Palm House, Showhouse, and Wolfe Terrace, with a grand reopening planned for summer 2027, so you can follow along on their construction updates page. The rest of the Conservatory is still open to visitors, and the gardens alone have plenty of engagement photo spots while the construction wraps up!
The Conservatory also has its own photography policy for portrait sessions, but if you want to book a shoot, we can discuss these details! I’ll plan around whatever’s open on your date, so all you have to do is show up and pick an outfit you love! To see more of my work, check out my portfolio!
